My name is Han Schrijver and I have been breeding English budgies for decades. I am also an international judge and have traveled to many countries, visiting many enthusiastic breeders. What I have noticed in particular is that there is a lot of variation in nutrition among breeders. By this, I mean both the composition of the basic feed (seeds) and the supplementary feed provided. I have also given my birds various compositions from different suppliers. I am always looking for improvements.

Personally, I believe that a well-composed seed mixture should be sufficient for an English budgie to live on. Naturally, a bird needs grit (in one form or another). It certainly does no harm to provide birds with good quality soft food as a supplement during breeding. Over the years, I have used many seed mixtures (compositions) from various manufacturers, suppliers, and brands as the basic feed for my birds. The feed was eaten well.

In 2023, I first came into contact with birdseed from the Vanrobaeys company through a fellow budgie breeder and his excellent seed composition. It is my opinion that a very large part of the budgie’s diet should consist of seeds and grains (mainly carbohydrates), and the Vanrobaeys version certainly meets this requirement. My birds now empty their bowls completely, and all types of seeds are consumed. Since I started using this feed, the condition of my birds has been very good and the breeding results are much better. For me, the switch to supplier/producer Vanrobaeys was a very good decision.
